Finally, I am D-O-N-E done! This victory felt even better because last April I lost by about ten thousand words, so I was so dang giddy when I started to get closer to 50k this time and knew I was actually going to make it. I quit about a week in and didn't really start back writing very much until around a week ago. Anyways, eek! I've won NaNoWriMo before, but it always makes me feel absolutely energetic and excited and I just want to do something. So even though half an hour ago I felt like I wouldn't even be able to write the two hundred I had left, as soon as I got done, I wanted to write a blog post about it. So here it is. |

We went exploring today . . . . . . Cemeteries . . . . . Old houses . . . . . . and anything else we could find. . . There are stories that go along with each little stop we took, but right now I'm off to continue on with Camp NaNoWriMo (32,272 words and 9 days to go), so the stories will be here when I get back.
It's hot, and everything's really green, and the only thing I want to do is play in the snow. Last year, when it got to be around three o'clock and James decided he was done playing in the snow (Crazy, I know) I tossed snowballs at his window for a while, then at Mama's window and at the tree in the front yard. Then I got an idea. I gathered up piles of snow and started coating the tree with it as high as I could get it. It was pretty fun.
I found holes all over my favorite tree in our yard. I backed up a little ways, thinking that with my luck a swarm of evil bugs would fly out of them and attack me. When I asked Mama what she thought of it, she mentioned it may be the workings of a woodpecker, and then I remembered stalking one last winter on the same tree. Once when I was little I heard a loud tap, tap, tap on the backdoor. I was pretty sure there was some crazy guy knocking on in and ran to get Sarah. She took quiet, slow steps around the corner and through the kitchen, peeked out the window, and said "It's just a woodpecker."
I like our woodpeckers. |
